A Day In The Life

Bucket O’ Sunshine

It’s a bittersweet time when forcing the end of the gardening season, when you know there are a handful of days left for plants to grow, but balancing that with the realization of what’s coming. It’s much easier and more comfortable to do what needs to be done on a sunny crisp day, when the ground is soft from all of the rain, vs. a bitter cold windy day when “why didn’t you do this sooner” nags in your head. This is a lesson learned from previous years • Mrs. P cut back the chives, pulled the lone parsley plant, and the last three broccoli plants that can’t do what they need to do in the time that’s left. Our fault for planting round two too late. Another lesson for next year • I removed a bucket’s worth of giant marigold blossoms and pulled those plants out. All will keep on giving as everything ends up in the compost • The only plants left to address are the rutabagas and those will be dug up this week, the final chapter in our garden story this year • Have a good day. I hope there’s some “sun” in your Sunday!
