Away day

Teaching in the morning; to Tate Britain to see Kurt Schwitters in the afternoon. Camera banned from that show, so this is Mark Boyle's 'Rock and Scree'.

Delighted to find a print by Helmuth Weissenborn in the Schwitters show - they were both interned together on the Isle of Man. What a fascinating place the Hutchinson camp, full of emigre artists, must have been. And how frustrating to have got out of Germany to Norway after being denounced as a degenerate artist by the Nazis, then to have one's peace shattered by the arrival of the Germans there; to take a boat across the Scotland, and greeted by being locked up.
