We have been interested in exploring the Forth and Clyde Canal system lately when we have had some spare time, and today we went through to Bowling to see the harbour there.

The canal was linked to Edinburgh when the Union Canal was opened in 1822. Bowling Harbour was built in the late 1810s by the Forth & Clyde Canal Co. to facilitate the interchange of traffic between the canal and the River Clyde. A lock was built to give direct access from the harbour to the canal.

We sadly picked a bad day as although it was dry in EK when we left, when we got there it was raining quite heavily.  There is a lot of work being done there, and quite a few narrow boats with residents, and it will be good to go back in the future to see how it has improved.

I took a couple of photos.......
