A fine perch

This afternoon F and I went on one of our regular local walks along the Montgomery Canal. On Friday evening Wales goes back into lockdown so as this part of the canal is in Powys, we thought that we'd make sure of a visit as we don't know when we can go over the border next (it should be 9th November but there's always the chance that it will be extended).

We saw long tailed tits, a flock of winter thrushes, a female merganser on the River Vyrnwy and a very late dragonfly.  The tree colours were beautiful and the strong wind was sending them whirling everywhere.

A pair of mallards had a comfortable perch on the fallen tree.  As this part of the canal isn't navigable the tree isn't in the way of boats.
