After getting to bed at quarter past 6, we slept til 10:30, just four hours sleep meant there was only one thing to do...hit the beach, Copacabana beach. The boy does what he always does, and goes in the sea leaving me burning to a crisp holding the bag tight sniggering at the states in thong bikinis - anything goes here - and singing Barry Manilow's tune to myself.

We walked a stretch of the beach and passed the famous Copacabana footie pitches where budding Brazilian kids hope to be spotted. The boy's attempts at goalkeeping however went unnoticed.

Next stop lunch, before sambaing our way to Rio airport for the flight to Paris. We're so gutted to be leaving South America. Despite its occasional bad press, we loved every minute, it's the most colourful, fun city at Carnaval time.
