licking his wounds

I was out nice and early at Charlecote Deer park hoping to catch a sunrise. Instead it rained and was very gloomy.  After it cleared up I had a wander round.  I heard the clashing of antlers and from a distance saw 2 stags having a right go.  I was just about to head out of the park, when the two fighting stags ran just in front of me. In camera reach this stag was tending to some pretty awful wounds. He has a nasty gash in his hind leg, and various puncher wounds.
