The Street

is a long bank of shingle stretching out to sea between Tankerton and Whitstable. We had intended to walk from Tankerton to Whitstable harbour but when we saw the unusually low tide and the unusually long extent of The Street we had to walk along until water was lapping us from both sides. Further along was a fisherman half submerged. The Street is usually covered by sea and we rarely see so much of it as exposed as this .
People always walk along it and from a distance look like Lowry st ick figures. Further out not visible in the photo are WW2 forts on legs.
