Green plover

Lapwing, or peewit: take your pick. Lapwing seems to be the accepted, first-choice name in all of the bird books, now. The low, autumn light on this bird's back shows the suitability of the green label, for this member of the plover family. Peewit is still the name that makes me smile, though.

I snapped this on a bike ride along the Tyne to Newburn to enjoy more glorious, autumn sunshine.
