Raclette…

………………...…..Cheese

Today was the day for Labour weekend’s open day for the Moutere Artisans.

Upper Moutere is a small village on the inland road between Nelson and Motueka, NZ

It is home to some creative and productive people who specialise in producing wines, cheeses from sheep and cows milk, gourmet wild mushrooms, olive oils, smoked (black) garlic, cider, hand crafted sausages, salami, smoked duck and a variety of conserves, mustards, etc.

Then there are the ceramic artists, sculptors, soap makers, handmade baskets from supplejack and willow, and friendly, inquisitive and adorable alpacas. A restaurant and an old pub add to the mix.

My blip today captures the hands of French cheesemaker Francis at Thorvald cheese, a business which produces amazing sheep and cows milk cheeses. Here he is scraping raclette cheese onto bread - this serving provided me with a delicious snack.

Full details about the day and the artisans can be found by clicking on this link.

UPDATE - I have added a collage showing from top left Terra Nova Alpacas, Neudorf Olives, Neudorf Mushrooms, A glass of Peckham’s Cider and the snout of a pig at The Sausage Press Deli Co.

Thank you for the comments and stars for yesterday’s nautical scene at Mapua - only a few miles from where I was today at Upper Moutere
