Stonechat

Stonechats tend to allow quite a close approach and like to sit on fences and other exposed perches so photographing them isn't too hard. This one is by the Loch of Stenness. The population of these little birds was very badly hit by two consecutive snowy winters about 10 years ago, but they have repopulated much of their former territories. This one, and the female in the extra might well be migrants form Scandinavia passing through.
