Guarding the gate

At the main gates of Charlecote Park there are two wild boar on guard!

One day, say about 18 months ago, my sister and I were on holiday near Ross on Wye. It was my birthday. We decided to take the dogs for a short walk in the woods before going to the pub for a meal. But that’s not quite how it turned out. We were meandering along the paths for a while and then realised we had become lost. No matter how hard we tried we seemed to be going in circles and the paths were just small tracks. So on and on we went for many hours. After a while we came to a small clearing that was slightly raised but all we could see was endless woodland. It was getting dark. In the end we had to phone the guy who rented the cottage out to us and from our description he managed to find us. We were so glad to see his torch appear. On the way back he told us stories and one of them was about how wild boar roamed these woods. How glad we were to find safety back at the cottage and luckily had a few things there to eat as it was far too late to go out, so we had bread and cheese for tea. Probably my most memorable birthday ever!
