Pragel Pass

We set off south, a little bit late at 11am, just wanting to get to the mountains, in the sun and above the fog. Mr S had the idea to go to Pragel Pass, from the Muotathal side. We parked at Frutti, where he’s parked to do a ski tour up the Silberen before. We walked up on almost the old pass road along the river, and up to the chapel at the top of the pass, 1548m. It was warm and sunny, T-shirt weather, and very few people around, compared to Stoos, back in the valley where the car parks were full, and people queuing to get on the funicular.
We took a wonderful path over limestone pavements, and opening up to Alpine vistas, and moorland. Then through the most beautiful ancient forest, then a very steep, slippery path which I really enjoyed, all senses and muscles on full alert. We were back at the car by 5 pm, but there’s not much daylight left now at that time.
