Nerines

I love nerines and this year with October being pretty dark and wet ( both physically and emotionally) their wonderful vivid pink is a welcome splash of colour everywhere. This particular spot has them against the wall - igneous rock and sandstone I think which has such a lovely array of colour. East Lothian is geologically interesting with lots of sandstone but also lots of ancient volcanic activity and as you cross over the eastern border into Berwickshire layers of stratified rocks start to appear particularly around St Abbs Head. It was a boat ride along this coast which inspired James Hutton theory in the late 1700s about the movement of deep geological rock and started the knowledge of tectonic plates. It’s a wonderful area :)
