Quarry Bank Mill

Nearly didn't make it out today as our central heating/water boiler gave up this morning and we thought we'd be stuck in all day waiting for a plumber.

Our own plumber said he could make it tomorrow morning, so we think we can cope for a couple of days without hot running water and we have other heaters & a gas fire as back-up heating. Reminds me of when I was a kid and we didn't have central heating!! At lease we don't have a call-out bill for a Sunday - but we don't know the extent of the damage yet - it's not a new boiler so it may have completely packed in!!! Ouch - this may be expensive!

Anyway, we'd never been to the mill at Styal, so off we set. I didn't fancy a walk but wanted to be out and about. It certainly kept us occupied for about 5 hours! My partner's family are from Preston so have a connection with cotton mills as some of his previous relatives had worked in them.

Fascinating place.
