“Somber Day of the Dead” (LA Times)

I bought this book for my grandchildren, to explain this ancient tradition celebrated in Mexico & here in California. Even though it is called DAY OF THE DEAD, it lasts several days. It is a wonderful tradition involving delicious food, brightly colored decorations
& festive parties with alters created to celebrate lost love ones.

What might seem to be macabre, is really meant to remember those who have died & who are dearly missed. This celebration honors the beauty of life & death. Instead of mourning, they celebrate. It reminds the living to enjoy life every day & to honor loved ones. Doing this every year, keeps loved ones in their heart forever.

Because COVID has been especially virulent in the Hispanic communities of Southern California, “this year, many alters will be for COVID victims.” (LA Times)
