Number 28: Michael and Jacqueline are at last fully reconciled! Raoul, catching the infection, proposes to Marguérite. Joconde the page seems delighted.

Michael Antony Eudes Saint Étienne married Jacqueline de Montvallon in a union that Jacqueline’s father Henri III had so greatly feared. At last peace was allowed to reign in the duchy.

Lorna’s remarks

The faces were are not good, and Michael has gone leggy like a vegetable, but otherwise this is a good picture of the old series, making use of the same background as number 23 with good effect.

The composition is good and the detail convincing, particularly the stained glass window with the Saint Étienne-Montvallon coat of arms.

I like Joconde throwing his cap with joy. He appeared in number 23 as the page with the ink.
