another day in paradise...

Couple of chaps in, cutting away all the rotten wood behind the shower tiles.  Replaced with concrete sheet.  Now retiled. Tomorrow, grouting and flooring refitted, shower reassembled.
Original cowboy builders used wood to back the shower tiles and failed to seal the shower controls or the handrail screws.  Water leaked through, saturated the plywood, glue expanded massively, wood rotted.  Yuk.
