Blaise Hamlet chimneys

The owner of Blaise, John Harford, commissioned John Nash to design little cottages for his estate pensioners. in 1809.  The National Trust look after them now and there are at least a couple looking for new tenants.  The poor pensioners still had to collect their water from a communal pump and they had outdoor privees.  They probably had to chop their own wood for their fires but each house had a good sized garden for growing vegetables and flowers and they had seats designed to contour the cottage wall so they could sit in the sun or find shade.  Two of the cottages had fine pigeon lofts and the green around which they stand has apples, walnut, cherry and quince trees and probably had more which have not stood the test of time.
