Cobbett's View

Not far from the trig point (at 244m,)on the Hampshire Hangers, I found this pony admiring the excellent view from the hilltop where it it was first noted (in 1822) by William Cobbett when he rode through here, and subsequently published his book 'Rural Rides'
'....out we came, all in a moment, at the very edge of the hanger!  And never, in my life, was I so surprised and so delighted!  I pulled up my horse, and sat and looked; and it was like looking from the top of a castle down to the sea except the valley was land not water'
