Life through the lens...

100 Today!

Dismal, dreary and damp.

So just to cheer you all up is this little bear who is 100 years old today.
He first appeared in the Daily Express on 8th November 1920.

I still have a few Rupert Annuals and this one dates from Christmas 1951. Price 4 shillings and 9 pence in old money!

I thought the first story was very apt.
( see extra )
Rupert’s mother is in bed with a bad cold and his friends are also unwell.
The doctor says what they all need is some sunshine.
So of course Rupert sets off to find some.
Eventually he finds a wise old goat, who knows how to capture and bottle sunshine.
So off Rupert goes, back home with several bottles to cure his mum and also his pals.

Now that’s just what we could do with on a day like today.

Happy Birthday Rupert. You brought me many happy hours of fun with your Annuals when I was little. Something I always looked forward to at Christmas.

The Royal Mail are bringing out a set of stamps in his honour.
