Life in Newburgh on Ythan

Lumberjacks are we!

"Over the hills is a little town
Where I spent my teenage days.
'Tis a quiet town
With not much to do.
Webbwood is its name.
...."
Dot Lachance

Webbwood is a small town in Ontario, Canada and it was there that my father was born and raised.
Webbwood was highly dependent on the lumber industry in the early 1900s. In this photograph from 1925 a group of lumberjacks are returning through the snow with their load of logs. My father's brother Bill is third from the left. He later went on to become a locomotive driver.
