Unsung heroes

I doubt whether anybody reading this will know my friend Stuart who lost his life to Covid last night, but...... he was a true hero. After a working lifetime serving the public in a tough job, he continued to serve his own - and a far wider - community as an amazing, inspirational, hard working and good humoured prolific volunteer. He founded and led an amazing search & rescue organisation, led Scotland’s voluntary sector work on  resuscitation, developed local community defibrillator deployment and training...and so much more, all as a volunteer.

His good humour and willingness to work with anybody made him friends and earned him respect which he’d never truly know, and I’ll miss him. Many, many will miss him, even if they didn’t know him.

RIP Stuart Ballantyne, a modest hero.
