Funnel Fungus

This is likely to be the Pale Milkcap, Lactarius pallidus, which is found in deciduous woodland, mainly under beech trees, as are these funnel shaped specimens. However the Pale Milkcap is rare in Southern England.

It could perhaps be the Coconut milkcap, Lactarius glyciosmus, but it’s in beech woodland and the Coconut Milkcap is associated with birch (albeit not exclusively).

I should have broken off a little piece and smelled it, then I’d know. Whatever, I had a lovely couple of hours walking with Heidi.
