The Aire and Calder

Navigation Canal

Taken the other day because i was too busy today to take anything.

The Leeds and Liverpool Canal and the Calder Canal meet at Castleford, they join the River Aire and it becomes The Air and Calder Navigation Canal. It splits at various places where a barge can't negotiate because of a weir on the river and often there are locks but becomes one again shortly after. It eventually joins the Humber and on to the north sea. So you can travel by barge all the way from Liverpool to Hull
