Calendula ...

... and something miniscule. Just about all that's growing in the polytunnel at the moment.
Website, leaf sweeping and a yomp round the circuit just about sums it up.
I have just finished reading The Five by Hallie Rubenhold, an investigation into the lives of the five women who were murdered by Jack the Ripper. Jack is not given the importance of any page space and the book is an astonishingly detailed look at each woman's story. It makes for bleak and sobering reading and shows how any woman's fate literally depended on the men in her life for without a man she was nothing. And once she had a man it was all about childbirth and child rearing. Grim how turn of events could turn so ghastly so quickly and how so many people were literally surviving hand to mouth. Desperate how all five women could have had such different lives if drink had not taken hold. Five engrossing stories of poverty, homelessness and ferocious misogyny.
