Down the Plughole at WWT Barnes

L2 Day 9. A trip to the Widfowl and Wetlands Trust at Barnes. Less parts were open during this lockdown than when we visited a few weeks ago. All the hides are closed, the children’s playground is closed and only some paths are accessible; also no viewing of the otters today! However we did see 20 species of birds.
There were a few volunteers working today but lots of the vegetation is now overgrown.... including around the Sir Peter Scott statue by the entrance. This reserve was opened in 2000 and in 2002 it was designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. It occupies more than 100 acres of land formed from the site of four disused Victorian reservoirs tucked into a loop of the Thames.
The blip is of the ‘Down the Plughole’ exhibition which was also closed. This was put in by Thames Water in 2010 to show visitors the effects of putting the wrong things down sinks and toilets! When open visitors can walk in and take a trip into a modern day sewer pipe and find out more about what happens when their bath water is drained and their toilet flushed.We
