Code red

I went into the village early to shop before others. There is a bewilderment at how we got here. 26 cases in our comune of 2,600. Seems a communion party and a lack of care with quarantining have something to do with it. But it’s more than that. In the summer Italy was absolutely on top of the virus and now from Sicily to the Valle d’Aosta there are real problems.

I chopped wood and gathered up oak and walnut logs from trees I’d felled last winter and before. We’re going red zone in four minutes. Can’t believe barbers and hairdressers will still be able to open.

They say the rate of growth is slowing but I suspect Italy will be tightly locked down in seven days.

Louisa In the shop said, This is what befalls us. After all we’re Italians.

That’s really hard to hear.
