seeing and unseeing

The figure stumbles onward, passing unnoticed between hurrying crowds. Eyes rapidly interrogating faces, eyes pleading for something known, some recognised fragment in this place and time. Above crows mock his movements. In disorientation he staggers onwards, falling against a wall, clutching at the moss covered stones.

He looks but cannot see. In vain he attempts to interpret the time stained rubble around him; to discover life and put death behind.
