Lathyrus Odoratus

In the shadows

On this morning's spaniel walk I came across this superb chunk of fallen rotting oak. In these few square inches I can see at least three slime moulds - the beautiful white Coral Slime (Ceratiomyxa fruticulosa) runs across the middle, above it what appears to be the remains of the yellow Dog Vomit slime (Fuligo septica) and on the right hand edge a little group of Eggs of Salmon slime mould (Trichia decipiens). Above the moulds sits a line of the circular fungus Common Grey Disco (Mollisia cinerea). Niche interests I know but I think they are rather wonderful and if the spaniel hadn't stopped to pick up a stick to carry home I probably wouldn't have noticed them.
