Art For Art's Sake

Went to the John Byrne (see extra) Exhibition in the Glasgow Print Studio today. Playwright and artist, born in "Ferguslie Park Paisley", best known for The Slab Boys and record covers for The Beatles, Gerry Rafferty and Billy Connolly. Several of his paintings hang in The Scottish National Portrait Gallery, including portraits of Robbie Coltrane, Billy Connolly, and Tilda Swinton.

Gerry Rafferty's song "Patrick" was written about John "Patrick" Byrne and fellow Paisley Buddy Rafferty's second Stealers Wheel album "Ferguslie Park" included album cover artwork by John Byrne. My only claim to fame in all this is we both went to the same secondary school.

My album of the day is "Dust My Broom" by Elmore James. The most copied guitar sound in the blues has to be his bottleneck riff from Dust My Broom., defining the modern bottleneck style which provided inspiration to enthusiastic young imitators.
