Testing water quality

Today my G12 Environmental Systems and Societies students made the most of the "in school" week and analysed the water quality of samples from 3 sources (a birdbath from a garden, the pond around the "Singel" art centre and from a small stream near Brasschaat) in the lab. As part of their "Water and Aquatic Food Production" unit, students also look at the pollution of water.

Thankfully, it is difficult to find polluted water in Belgium and this was apparent from our tests as well. Students tested the samples for temperature, pH, conductivity, phosphate and nitrate concentration and dissolved oxygen concentration. No pollution was found.
