New State of Alarm day 26.
Dreadful weather today: really cold (14 deg C), and winds strong enough to overturn the municipal refuse skips down the road and rearrange pots and planters in the garden. The howling gale kept me awake most of the night, wondering about the origin of numerous bangs and crashes, so for once I didn't feel like going out in it to get pictures of big waves.
All was not doom and gloom though, as I took delivery of a consignment of comfort foods not available here, via a European distributor of food from the UK, which I was trialling as an experiment to see if it was worth using again. The mince pies were delicious but quickly gone, the steak and kidney pie for lunch likewise, and the sticky toffee pudding for dessert after a chicken stir-fry for dinner likewise. I still have more puddings, fruit teacakes, crumpets, pork pies, cumberland sausage and a boned turkey joint for that festivity next month whose name cannot be uttered yet. It all looked lovely, was reasonably priced and the service excellent at only a day after ordering. It's good to get a taste of home when no visits are possible for the foreseeable future.
