Golden Light

The conditions on the lake this afternoon were a bit surreal. It was very quiet and calm and late afternoon sunlight filtering through clouds shone warm golden light on the reeds. Rather than shoot towards the light as I might normally, which renders foreground elements as dark silhouettes, I opted for a side on view. To show off the bright colour, I positioned the camera low to the ground, placing the reeds against dark trees and shadowed water opposite.

Afterwards, I toyed with cropping out the sky for more impact, but the skyline dips to the right which led to cropping the tops off some reeds. I should have shot more versions not quite as low down, so as to have options. Another lesson learned.

Extra: Dreamy Waters.
