Going, going ...

We were woken by the gentle sounds of chainsaws and a chipper. What on earth? Disaster, the biggest tree behind the back lane was being felled. We’ve watched it grow taller, and it’s side limbs become wonkier, over the years so it was terrible to now watch its demise. It may have been diseased but there was absolutely no sign of that so maybe it just grew too big for its spot, I don’t know, but there’s now a huge hole in the landscape. Bummer.
Just for the hell of it I checked online to see if it was covered by a Tree Protection Order, no such luck but I doubt it’d have mattered.
