THREE JAKES

Wild Turkey (Meleagris gallopavo); three Jakes. Jakes are young male birds and they tend to hang around in groups until they establish their own territories. I made this back Blip in 2018.

This is an apropos photo as today is Thanksgiving Day in the U.S. And this is the traditional bird served up for a meal on this day albeit, these days, domestic birds are typically served. This is mostly because domestic birds are a lot larger than the wild ones and it takes some skill to hunt the wild birds. They are not easily bagged...and peanut butter sandwiches just don't make it for a Thanksgiving meal.
