Sanderlings

I spent a couple of hours around the beach at barrier #4 between Burray and South Ronaldsay. The sanderlings are the most active little waders on the beach- there were about 22, plus 19 ringed plover, about 10 turnstones and 5 purple sandpipers, redshanks and oystercatchers. A great northern diver was offshore. It was only when I was sorting the images for upload that I realised there was a grey plover there too. I walked along to Echnaloch Bay and the sea was very calm. There were orcas out there, but I couldn't see them.
