Tinder fungi

I believe this is Tinder Fungi ( Fomes fomentarius)

This bracket fungi has been growing for several years on a very large Beech tree. Its a perrenial polypore sometimes known as Hoof fungus.

Its common name comes from the fact that when broken into pieces it makes very good tinder for starting fires as I expect Ray Mears would tell you.
