Nay Pyi Taw

Nay Pyi Taw meaning 'the capital'. Simple.

The military government relocated the capital to a more strategically central part of the country and built a brand new city on rice fields. Most government staff have been relocated here. It looks like a city of privileged, looking quite deserted. They've even built a huge golden pagoda which might look impressive from afar but close up betrays its hasty construction. Also deserted.

Unlike other cities around the country, the capital has 24-hour electricity and 8-lane highway with hardly anyone driving on it. Imagine what a waste of money that is, how many kids could go to school instead?!

You don't come here for sights so much as for its surreal atmosphere.
