Hobbs's Run

George

Norma and I have been staying in the Sydney CBD,  looking at the Christmas decorations, checking out the stores, spoiling ourselves in restaurants etc There seems a lot more activity than we have seen in recent visits although this blip doesn't really show that. The complete absence of new locally transmitted COVID cases, for nearly a month, has led to a lot more confidence and in the commercial district that feeling is tangible.

Normal traffic has been removed from George Street in favour of a light rail corridor. In the last year or two, dramatic advances have been made in replacing private road traffic with public transport and much more is yet to come. In the blip I am standing on a tram station looking north (top) and then south (bottom).

In the extras, Norma is sporting her new Ran Ban sunnies and taking a stroll along the east Circular Quay promenade.

STOP PRESS. One of the workers from a hotel quarantine facility for recently returned Australian travellers has just tested positive. This has put a halt to any complacency to say the least. But If no extra cases arise from that one, a good many residual social restrictions may be relaxed before the Christmas season. Here's hoping.
