Cape Sorrel.

I did not know the name of these beautiful yellow wild flowers, so I asked Mrs. W.

"Cape Sorrel", came the reply. She is ever so resourceful. :)

In Maltese we used to refer to them as 'Qares', which is really a reference to the bitter taste the stalks give out when bitten into.

I wouldn't dream of trying this now, but I remember many times in my younger years when grabbing a handful and biting into them was very normal.

Qares, anyone?
