The holy and not so holy

Another fine day today, maybe the last for a while.  Usual walk down town and along the front, the ‘Lord of the Isles’ coming out this time. (OK, an extra for the boat buffs!)

Came back from the Corran Halls via Nursery Lane and Duncraggan Road, from where this nice view of the cluster of buildings on the corner of the Esplanade can be seen.

Starting from the front we have:

Corran Halls – opened 1965
Church of Scotland – opened 1957 (now a kids' playgroup)
Alexandra Hotel – opened 1869
St Columba's cathedral – opened 1959 (though begun in 1932 to a design by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott.)

Quote of the Day:

Robert Louis Stevenson – “I never weary of great churches. It is my favourite kind of mountain scenery. Mankind was never so happily inspired as when it made a cathedral.”
