Town hall / Mairie

Another cold wet day. Just before sunset we set off to walk to the town hall, the local paper said it was all illuminated for Christmas. The high street had some lights on and some the shops had done something, but not all the lights were on and a lot of the shops had done nothing at all.

At the bottom of the high street we trudged across the port and locks to the walled town, which did have some lights on, and to the town hall at the far end in the castle, where this picture was taken. Overall it was a bit of a let down, the red light and the illuminated city flag works well, but the laser projection of Father Christmas was a bit rubbish. The extra is a palm tree illuminated with red light from below, which was rather fun.

Across the square by the tourist information office was a very thin illuminated tree that was just plonked there and while okay, was very isolated and looked rather lonely.

Intra-Muros had some lights and a few shops had bothered, but overall it was quiet and very muted. I suppose it's good that it's not busy, but it felt a bit empty and flat. The illuminations in the walled town had problems too, one of the big trees had most of its lights off, and the cathedral was just floodlit in plain white light, which had more a resemblance of a building site than a cathedral at Christmas.

Back blipping.
