Christmas card

Today's the day ………………………… to create

Apparently December 9th is Christmas Card Day,  which honours Sir Henry Cole (1808 - 1882) who created the first commercial Christmas card in 1843.

He was a British civil servant who facilitated many innovations in commerce and education in 19th century in the UK.  The Great Exhibition held in the Crystal Palace in Hyde Park, London in 1851 was an enormous popular and financial success, partially due to his astute management.  The very first Christmas Card made by him is shown in extras.

I absolutely love sending and receiving cards at this time of the year.  The above is one of my favourites received so far - simple but effective and made by a couple of artistic friends - just for us…………………..
