Der Scheerstaaner Stifterabbeler

The Schierstein Something or Other.

Obviously I had to do a bit of research because "Something Or Other" is not good enough.

Every city has its own dialect.

If you were born and raised in Mainz, for example, you would call yourself a "Meenzer".    Hence "Scheerstaaner" for someone from Schierstein.  There is no way to navigate these linguistic WTFs - if you are not brought up with it.  You have to ask.  And ask that answer is given slowly.

Apparently the poorer young men from 200 years ago would fill their pockets with nails - also called "Stifter".  And in order to attract the attention of young women they would jingle (rabbeln) the nails to make out as if they had pockets full of money.

I'm not sure how much of this story is verifiably accurate, but I did my best.

Please do not correct me, I don't need that today.  I'm happy with what I found out and if I ever have to use the word "Stifterabbeler" in a sentence here, then I have definitely landed in another world.
