:: Mister Postman look and see.... ::

is there a letter, a letter for me.....

Another visit to the local post office today.
These lockable post boxes line one of the walls inside.
I have discovered this post office has an interesting history.

In June 1953 the Worcester County tornado,
classified as F4, swept through seven towns in 90 minutes with wind speeds of up to 400 miles an hour.  It ended it's trail of destruction at this post office in Fayville, Southborough.

Unfortunately, the Postmaster, his wife and one other person died when the building collapsed.  In total 90 people lost their lives and more than 10,000 lost their homes.

Eight days after the tornado struck New England, the US government reorganized the Storm Prediction Center and implemented a national radar system to spot storms.

I originally planned to investigate the history of these brass lockable post boxes.    They are so much more attractive than the modern aluminum ones.
