Black Hunting Wasp

These beasts don’t hang around. I was lucky to get a shot of it. Unfortunately the light was wrong so the brilliant iridescent blue wings are drab. The largest of our hunting wasps, they measure about 2.5 cm, and they hunt spiders. Endemic to NZ.
