Holly

A cycle today took me to the shoulder of Knockshegowna, where this holly bush is still covered with an amazing amount of berries.  Most of the local holly bushes have very few berries this year, which may have been due to the severe frost of May 11th, which did a lot of damage to emerging leaves on ash and oak.  The bush in the photo, being at the top of the hill,  could have been above the accumulation of freezing air on the flat lands below.  The berries must be unpalatable to birds as there is very little 'wild' fruit for them and most berries have been eaten by now.
