Sprayer

As the ground is still frozen, the fields are full of farming activity.

In one field a tractor is direct drilling spring barley seed into the stubble of last year's winter wheat. Leaving the fields in stubble over the winter is good for the birds as they can forage for all the spilt grains from the harvest, and we plough as rarely as possible to leave the soil (and the worms!) undisturbed.

This machine is a sprayer that has just finished spraying off weeds in the oil seed rape field. Its arms are folded up by its side so that it can fit through the gate. When the arms are unfolded it's about 5 times as wide and it looks like a giant insect!
