The Kiltwalk

It's the Buzz n Barney Show

As we focus on raising a million we don't mind how, or why, people choose to take part in The Kiltwalk to fundraise for Scotland's Children. However we have noticed that people who have had 'a wee swally" are prime targets for signing up :-)

In 2011 we monitored the Friday night habits of Linda McKeitch and before you could say "vodka and coke" we managed to get her to sign up around 23:00 on a Friday night when her defences were down and she was up for anything.

This year Sam Currie, a regular Hampden to Loch Lomond Kiltwalker agreed to take part in the Edinburgh event also, after a glass of wine too many.

See the pattern emerging?

Then there's Suzie McNamara, owner of these two lovely "butter wouldn't melt in our mouths" ragamuffins, Barney (left) and Buzz (right).

Suzie was partaking of a liquid refreshment or two one evening and noticed that her friends, The Malchers, were gibbering on about this "Kiltwalk" thing and posting about it all over Facebook.

So when she enquired what it was all about and when the gauntlet was thrown down by Mrs Malcher, Suzie said "No problem, I'm signing up for the Wee Walk cause I can do 6 miles no problem"

So off she went to sign up and due to either her lack of reading glasses, or one refreshment too many (delete as appropriate) she only went and signed up for the 13 mile Half walk instead.

As the saying goes "one woman's mistake is a couple of dogs good fortune" because rather than the odd mile here or the odd mile there, Suzie decided she better step up her game plan if she's going to get back in time for happy hour at her local on the 21st April :-)

It's just as well Suzie has Barney and Buzz as they like nothing better than scrambling around the Renfrewshire countryside, so make great walking companions.

Their own wee walk usually starts at Brownside Farm between Barrhead and Paisley where Barney n Buzz lead the way as they follow the track from there, through the cattle gate and on up the hill towards Fereneze Golf course.

It's around here they have to watch out as Buzz hasn't quite grasped the fact the golfers aren't hitting the balls for him to fetch. I mean surely going and fetching the ball which that man with the stick on the hill has and bringing it back to Suzie is what you're supposed to do, right? :-)

So at this point then depending on how many golf balls Buzz has nicked their pace picks up as they make a quick getaway and head towards Killoch Glen. The paths are always full of muck at this time of year so by the time they reach Glenburn Reservoir then dogs being dogs they can't resist going in for a paddle, which Suzie is happy with as it save her giving the lads a good wash.

However Buzz, the ball stealer, is only a young thing and isn't too keen on getting his head wet as Suzie found out the first time she threw his toy in the water. Rather than another game of 'fetch' Buzz stood there shivering away, staring at his toy until Suzie had to eventually wade in and get it out for him!!!!

All in all this route is around 5 miles and given Suzie, Buzz n Barney can sometimes do this twice a day, 13 miles shouldn't be a problem.

So if your reading this and enjoy a wee swally on a Friday night, drop us your email address and we'll be in touch.
