Winter Solstice-Adult Learning: Advent Day 21

Everyone agrees here @Learners_Forum that the Winter Solstice is a time of  celebration, of giving and receiving, for sharing, for new hope and continued understanding in the cycle of life-we’ve had to do it differently this year but the feeling and hope is still there on those long zoom calls and that's great. Adult learning builds connections with people who share a common goal in learning, people who want to do the same as you and learn about the things you do. We've learned a lot this year about how these connections go beyond the learning centre into the heart of communities.

Christmas is a time when genuine lightness, joy and celebration are in the air – a sense of coming closer, cosying up, sharing, laughing and playing games. This time feels precious in a culture where we place so much importance to how much we’ve achieved, how productive we are, and how busy we’ve been.

This year we will have no choice but to protect our human need for lightness and joy and keep the connection time safe for everyone. We've decided we’ll hold our big connection celebrations later next year when time and vaccine permits us to get together again and share our hopes and dreams with friends, colleagues and family.

Adult learning matters for all of our lives. The things we learn and share with each other in our groups are the things that help us feel the most joy.

Happy Solstice Day- the first day of joy in the winter calendar as we wait for the return of the light.
